SKBest practice as habitat improvement for the alpine-carpathian river network
The rivers in the project area are important links between the alps and the carpathians. Unfortunately many river stretches are heavily modified by regualtion, daming and urban development. In the course of this project different types of pilot actions will be implemented: deregualtion of river banks, hydrological improvements, barrier removal and revitalization of riparian forests.
The focus of those actions is on the river stretches between ecologicaly intact parts (eg existing protected areas or already restored river stretches). Priority is the restoration of ecological functionality and habitat improvements. The implemented actions are show cases for follow up projects and future measures.
