Rivers

The Austrian Federal Forests (Österreichische Bundesforste) maintain one out of every ten square metres of Austria’s natural landscape.

The protection of nature and environment is our daily business. We protect, maintain and cultivate/sustainably use the natural resources entrusted to us – such as forests, mountains, rivers and lakes.

Especially rivers form an important corridor between the Biosphere Park Wienerwald and the National Park Donau-Auen.

As part of the project, we implement pilot measures to improve the connectivity of rivers and riversides. We develop measures to enhance the quality of these important habitats.

Pilot measures for ecological improvement of small water bodies are in progress. For example, we will remove artificial constructions to improve the connectivity of small rivers.
